ABOUT DOCLA SCHOOL :  Documentary Film Workshop for Peruvian filmmakers  will be aimed at strengthening and exercising the audiovisual work of filmmakers / documentary video throughout Peru. In this workshop, fifteen filmmakers will be selected to expand their knowledge of documentary film during the month of February 2021.

The workshop will be free, online and theoretical, from the development of a documentary project to the distribution of a production, this applied in the cases of the filmmakers of the Swiss Ecran-Mobile Association, Laura Gabay and Davide Tisato , and the case of the filmmaker Peruvian Diego Sarmiento , from the HDPerú Association. However, the students will carry out a practical exercise which will be analyzed by the Swiss directors. Participants are expected to obtain tools that strengthen them in the practice of documentary filmmaking, as well as allow them to promote their professional development.

The workshop arises from an alliance between the HDPerú Association, Ecran-Mobile (Switzerland) and DOCLA (Network of Latin American Documentalists), with the support of the Swiss Cultural Fund and the Swiss Embassy in Peru.

Switzerland - Workshop facilitator

David Tisato

He studied at the St. Gallen School of Fine Arts until 2010, when he moved to Spain and began his sociology studies at the University of Valencia. 
His passion for cinema led him to study the Creative Documentary Master's Degree at the EICTV in San Antonio de los Baños (Cuba) in 2018. After his studies, he stayed longer in Cuba to make his first documentary "Carbón" , which won the award for best Swiss film at the Winterthur Short Film Festival (2020) and will be shown at the Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana.

Switzerland - Workshop facilitator

Laura Gabay

Born in Switzerland, of Uruguayan and Spanish origin. After graduating in sociology, he studied film at HEAD - Geneva (High School of Art and Design) and at EICTV (International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba).


Since 2017 she has been a director and producer at the Ecran-Mobile Association. His thesis film, "Enquête 62" (2016) was selected at several festivals and won the audience award at the International Film Festival (Badalona). His short film "Sweet Salty Wind" (2019) was at several festivals including Visions du Réel (Switzerland) and IDFA (Netherlands). Since 2018 he has been producing and teaching Super 8 workshops in Cuba, Brazil and Switzerland. She is the producer of the short film “ Carbón ” which won the award for best Swiss film at the Winterthur festival (2020).

Diego Sarmiento's first documentary feature film as director and producer, “RíoVerde. The Time of the Yakurunas”, premiered at the 67th Berlin Film Festival and MoMA Doc Fortnight 2018.  “Sembradoras de Vida” (2019), his second documentary premiered at the 69 Berlin Film Festival. In 2020, he won the Berlinale Talents Footprints - Mastercard Enablement Program award, with Wim Wenders as president of the jury, with the "Seeds Project" where he will take the film "Sembradoras de Vida" to rural communities in the Peruvian Andes.


Diego studied Audiovisual Communication at the Catholic University of Peru and a master's degree in documentary film at EICTV in Cuba.
